Powerless by Lauren Roberts (2023)
Plot: This book is called Powerless by Lauren Roberts. This story follows a girl call Paedyn who is an ordinary (people that do not possess powers). Those who possess powers are called Elites and every year in the Kingdom of Ilya ‘The trials’ are held and it’s a competition of hardworking elites taking parts in challenges and battling each other until there is only one winner (loosely based on the Hunger Games plot). But one day when Paedyn saves Prince Kai’s life she is selected to go to the trials and pretend to be a psychic (as her power) to not be killed as Ordinaries are seen as a kind that needs to end.
Likes and dislikes: What I particularly liked about this book was the main female lead, Paedyn who is an independent, smart and fierce fighter and is clever and cunning. Throughout the whole book, I loved her character and her sharp mind. Another thing I liked about this book was the chemistry between Paedyn and Kai and their banter. I personally loved the book and couldn’t find any fault in it however some people might find the beginning of the book a little slow but as soon as you hit chapter 10 the book begins to gather pace.
