The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (2011)
Plot: This is a story set over a period of time in the late 1800s about many different characters and their encounters or (you could say) relationships with a magical circus that only appears at night and stays in a different location every time. However, it mainly focuses on two young magicians who are bound to their mentors and are faced with a lifelong competition against each other.
Positives: I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the whimsical writing in this book. The world created by Erin Morgenstern is truly magical. All the characters you initially wouldn’t think didn’t have anything to do with the circus are later revealed to play a big role, and that is very exciting to discover.
Negatives: The only thing I consider a negative for this book, is the pacing which was sometimes slow, for the story explores the world and its characters much more than the plot.
