Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend (2018)
Plot: This sequel to Nevermoor follows Morrigan as her “secret” comes out and everybody knows what she is. After she joins this prestigious society, she is encouraged to embrace her powers however, she is only taught the worse parts of her abilities and struggles to be accepted. All she wants is to belong and have an education full of discovery.
Positives: Similar to the first book, I enjoyed this novel for its magical world building and lovable characters. Once again, I went on this journey with Morrigan as she yearns for protection and friends that will care for each other for the rest of their lives and I could not keep myself from smiling. I admire that when Morrigan faces challenges, she never backs down and this book isn’t exactly a walk in the park for our main protagonist, but it still has many positives.
Negatives: You are introduced to this whole new fictional world where almost nothing makes sense which can be confusing at times, however I paid no mind to the geography of it and instead, just went along with the story.
