My Own Lightning by Lauren Wolk (2022)

Annabelle is walking home from school when she is stuck by lightning. Somebody saves her life-she has a memory of them pounding their fist on her heart to restart it-but then leaves. Who was it? And now, after the lightning, the world feels different to Annabelle: her normal senses – touch, taste, sound – are heightened, and on top of that she can now sense what animals are feeling.

As the summer unfolds, Annabelle tries to understand her new ability and to unlock all the mysteries that’s surround her: not only who saved her, but her brother’s missing dog, their new, strange neighbours, and a devastating event from the previous year.

I really enjoyed this book. It explored different themes compared to other books I have read but I enjoyed them all. This book really shows us how hard Annabelle was finding it and I really liked the premise of understanding and forgiving.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone; I don’t think there should be an age requirement for this book as everyone can learn for this.
Overall, I rate this book a 5 star and hope everyone else will enjoy it and rate it a 5-star as well!
