Death Sets Sail by Robin Stevens (2020)
In ‘Death Sets Sail’, the ninth and final novel in the award-winning Murder Most Unladylike series, detectives Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells are invited by their friend Amina El Magherabi on a cruise in her home country Egypt. However, murder strikes again!! When the leader of ‘The Breath Of Life’ is murdered, Daisy and Hazel are granted permission to find the murderer while their friends Alexander Arcady and George Mukherjee are forced to miss out. This may link to one of their previous cases where Alexander gets to investigate, and Daisy and Hazel are forced to miss out. Amina helps them a lot with her excellent Arabic speaking skills and knowledge of Ancient Egypt.
Positives and negatives: I loved this book because its plot was thrilling. However, it could have included and developed the Hazel’s sister Rose a little more as she was just a side character.
Who I would recommend this to and what to read next: I would recommend to girls and boys over the age of 10 who love crime, and strongly encourage everyone in Year 7+ reading the Murder Most Unladylike series. For Year 9+, we’d recommend Laura Wood’s ‘The Agency for Scandal’: a fantastic feminist detective story set in Victorian London.
Reviewer: Aisha, Year 9
