When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle (2021)
It’s 1941 and the war is raging. Joseph, a 12-year-old boy, is being evacuated to the city to live with Mrs F- a friend of his gran’s. She is an unfriendly women and Joseph feels troubled and totally abandoned knowing he has no one.
Now Joseph finds himself in the center of a blitz where bombs rule the skies. Mrs. F doesn’t care- the only thing she cares about is a rundown zoo, particularly a huge gorilla, Adonis. When Joseph and Adonis first meet, they immediately have a sense of dislike for each other however over the course of the book, there bond deepens.
I loved this book. The book being set is the Second World War made it very interesting as you can catch a glimpse of was other people had to face in real life. I also liked the book as there were some twists that really surprised me and it was also really entertaining and kept me motivated the entire way through!
I learnt a lot from this book and hope others who read it will too.
I would definitely recommend this book to those who are around 10 and over.
I rate it a five star and hope everyone will too!
