Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo (2019)

Reviewer: Eiliyah, Year 12

Overview: Girl, Woman, Other captures a broad insight into the lives of twelve women of Black heritage living in modern British society over several historical periods across the United Kingdom. Some of these twelve characters are connected and this book reinforces how their lives are intertwined. For example, Yazz, the daughter of Amma, who is a radical feminist, faces hardship in fitting into her university which is predominantly white.

What I enjoyed: Instead of ignoring different aspects which are seen as being accepted in wider society, they are being reinforced through the lives of these twelve female characters.
