A Pocket Full of Stars by Aisha Bushby (2019)
‘A Pocketful of Stars’ is about a girl called Safiya who is trying to piece her mother’s thoughts together after she falls into a coma. She goes on a hunt through her mum’s favourite items in order to collect and preserve her memories but whilst doing so, has to deal with friendship trouble and the thought of her mum dying which is too much to bear.
Positives and negatives: Overall, this book was a very well written and the ending was very shocking to me because it was not what I expected. However, I personally thought that the character of Safiya could have been more developed because she didn’t feel real to me.
Who I would recommend this to and what to read next: I would recommend this book to fans of fantasy and if you enjoyed it, you may like her book A Flash of Fireflies.
