A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson (2019)
Plot: ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ is based on the findings of an inquisitive teenage girl, Pippa, who is trying to untangle her town’s hidden secret. With the help of her new-found friend, Ravi, Pippa tries to find who really is to blame for a notorious murder. However, with the town hushing down its past, the iconic duo is set for a ride on the streets of Little Kilton. From an EPQ, to a trail of lies, concealed truths, and lines of red string. Yet, will Pippa find the true criminal among the not-so innocent civilians….
Positives: Each line keeps you waiting for the next. With so many unexpected turns in events, the book will refuse to keep you off your toes! I can ensure you that within a matter of pages, you will feel among the scenes of Little Kilton.
Negatives: Well, does refusing from putting the book down count?
Who would I recommend the book to: Within this intriguing novel, there are many themes explored from loss to romance, family to enemies, this book has it all. I would recommend this book to anyone in KS3 and above. A level of maturity is required, yet it is still suitable for anyone in Year 9 and above. Likewise, if you enjoy the thrill of investigations, this book is for you.
See Ms Elmi’s review too. Rumours are that it’s coming set to arrive on BBC Three as a television series early 2024.
