Death Sets Sail by Robin Stevens (2020)
Hazel Wong gets a letter from her dad that tells her that she and her best friend and fellow detective Daisy Wells on a trip to the Orient Express. However, on the train murder strikes for the third time. A wealthy heiress has been murdered and all the evidence points to her brother and crime writer Mr. Strange. Having been written out of their mother’s will, he seems the most likely to commit the murder. But is there more than meets the eye? Help Faisy and Hazel uncover the daring murderer and help find a Nazi spy.
Having been inspired by Agatha Christie’s famous Murder on the Orient Express I think that this book was wonderfully written and has no flaws.
Who I would recommend this to and what to read next: In my opinion I think that First Class Murder was a very interesting read as it caught my attention early on and the ending was not what I expected. I love the way the author wrote this book so that it makes you feel like you are there with Daisy and Hazel. I think this book is suitable for people who like crime and murder novels. For Year 9+, I’d recommend Laura Wood’s ‘The Agency for Scandal’: a fantastic feminist detective story set in Victorian London.
Reviewer: Aisha, Year 9
