The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1943)
Plot: It doesn’t matter how many times I read this book. It remains magical, The story follows a pilot who crashes in a desert and in the midst of his isolation meets a young prince who is from another planet. This prince has visited various planets in space, including Earth, and explains patiently to the pilot all about them, addressing – as he does so – themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. Despite its style as a children’s book, The Little Prince makes observations about life, adults and human nature.
Positives: Poetic writing, the simple joy of childhood vision and the deep truths of human life.
Negatives: None. It finishes too quickly.
