The Book Thief, Markus Zusak (2005)

About the book: This book is an amazing read. It is about a young orphan growing up during World War II called Liesel. When she arrives at her foster home, her foster parents, Hans and Rose soon find out that she cannot read. They teach her the value of reading and how it can provide comfort and growing up, she saves (or steals) books from bombsites. But there is a larger problem; her foster parents are harbouring something the Nazis detest. Something they want to abolish. Will Liesel and those close to her survive this grim time? Be sure to read The Book Thief.

Positives: You learn new things about World War II in a way that is informative and emotional.

Negatives: You may get emotional through the book particularly at the end. Be sure to read it to know what happens.
