The Scorch Trials, James Dashner (2010)

Thomas, Newt and Minho (and the surviving Gladers) are finally free of the Maze. They thought they escaped from all the horrors- but the real trials have just begun for them. The earth is burned and dry, and the civilisations that have survived the catastrophic sun flares are riddled with a horrifying disease- The Flare. And WICKED, the creators of the Maze, are plotting again.

Will Thomas and his friends survive the wasteland, the Scorch, they have to cross? Will they find the cure?

The second book in this thundering, dystopian series, we finally get to see the scarred world beyond the maze. Fast-paced, full of action and never loses a beat, I give this book 5 stars, although I think that the characters’ personalities could’ve been slightly more developed.
