The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini (2003)

The Kite Runner is wonderful, moving novel set in Afghanistan during the early 70s. The novel revolves around the characters of Amir and Hassan, two young friends living in the peaceful Afghanistan of 1975 before the Russian invasion and the subsequent civil wars.

Secrets and a devastating betrayal unfold which, teamed with the impact of war and ethnic prejudice, lead the two once inseparable boys down two very different paths in life.

Filled with great characters, Hosseini has written an amazing debut novel which centres on one man’s journey to confront the past and find redemption.
