The novel is set in the late 1990s and the visuals really showed that. It made me feel so nostalgic as I remember all those fashion trends and the hair! I kept think of ‘Clarissa Explains It All’ when I was reading it.
It follows Marjorie who is desperately trying to balance school with running the family launderette after the death of her mother and the deep depression of her father. It was heart-wrenching to see and really stirred emotions. It also follows Wendall, a recently deceased boy who escapes back to the land of the living and causes a whirlwind in Marjorie’s life.
The story was amazing and the illustrations were fabulous. I seriously want all of Wendall’s facial expressions as reaction pictures on my phone: they were great!
